
Why your bathroom heater shouldn’t blind you
Most bathroom heaters use short-wave infrared to get you warm the second you flip the switch. It works. But if you’ve ever used a standard quartz halogen lamp, you know the downside: that aggressive, blinding white light. It’s more than just annoying. For babies or anyone with sensitive eyes, that kind of glare is just too much. It’s harsh. We figured there had to be a better way to get the heat without the headache.
Cutting out the glare
Here’s how we handle it. We apply a special coating to the quartz glass that acts like a filter. Think of it as a gatekeeper. It blocks the high-energy blue light and UV rays—the stuff that makes you squint—but lets the warmth slide right through to your skin. You still get that cozy, intense heat, but the light stays soft. We keep the energy focused right where it belongs (between 700nm and 1400nm), so you aren’t staring into a spotlight while you’re trying to dry off.
The balancing act
Getting the hardware right is a bit of a tightrope walk. We use halogen-filled quartz tubes to keep the temperature steady, but we have to be careful with the wattage. If we just cranked the power to make it heat up instantly, we’d run into problems. The filaments would burn out way too fast, or worse, the plastic reflectors would start to melt. It’s all about balance. We’ve tuned it so the lamp hits its stride in under two seconds, giving you warmth without the blinding flash.
The trade-off
Now, to be honest, these eye-protection coatings add a bit of work to the factory line. They also dip the overall thermal efficiency just a tiny bit compared to a raw, naked tube. You lose a small sliver of heat to get a much safer light spectrum. But in a normal-sized bathroom? You won’t even notice the difference. It’s a small price to pay for a heater that actually feels comfortable and keeps your eyes safe.
