
Stop Your Infrared Heaters From Dying Early
If you’ve ever put a standard infrared heater in a damp or humid spot, you know how it goes. They just… die. Water sneaks in, condensation builds up, and before you know it, you’ve got a short circuit or rusted-out heating elements. It’s a headache nobody needs. To fix this, we built a chassis with an IPX4 rating. Basically, it’s splash-proof.
What “IPX4” Actually Means for You
You don’t need a degree in engineering to get this. IPX4 just means that if water splashes on the unit from any direction, it stays out. We did this by sealing up the electrical junctions and using gaskets to keep the wiring dry. Now, let’s be clear: you can’t throw this thing in a swimming pool. But if you’re working in a wash-down area or a plant where the air feels like a sauna, this keeps the droplets from hitting the live parts.
Dealing With the Fog
Ever notice how a mirror fogs up in the shower? That’s what happens to heaters. When warm air hits a cold surface, you get droplets that cloud the emitter or cause electrical glitches. We handled this by changing how the air moves. We designed a specific thermal venting path that keeps the surface temperature just above the dew point. The result? The glass stays clear, and the moisture never gets a chance to settle.
The Trade-off
Nothing is perfect. Because we added seals and a protective housing, the air doesn’t flow as freely as it does in an open-frame heater. You’ll notice the inside of the housing runs a bit hotter. It’s not a huge jump, but it’s there. Just make sure your ventilation is up to the task so the unit doesn’t overheat.
Putting It to Work
You can finally toss these units into environments with constant steam or light spraying without worrying they’ll quit on you next week. By keeping the water out, we’ve killed the main reason these filaments fail. That means you spend less time swapping out broken heaters and more time actually running your shop. One last thing: make sure you wire it to a GFCI circuit. Safety first, especially when things get wet.
