
Getting the Heat Right (Without Blinding Yourself) in the Bathroom
Ever stepped out of a shower into a freezing bathroom and wished for instant warmth? That’s where infrared lamps come in. They use short-wave radiation to hit you with heat the second you flip the switch. But there’s a catch. Standard halogen bulbs are basically spotlights. They put out a harsh, blinding glare that’s not just annoying—it can actually be tough on the eyes, especially for babies whose vision is still developing. Fixing the glare We handle this by tweaking the quartz glass and the filament inside the bulb. By using special coatings or “doped” quartz, we can block out that aggressive blue light. It shifts the energy toward the longer infrared waves. You still get that cozy, dense heat that dries out a damp room, but you don’t feel like you’re staring into the sun. Now, there’s a tiny trade-off here. Filtering the light means the heating isn’t quite as raw as a clear bulb, but it’s a price worth paying to save your retinas. Placement matters Where you put the lamp changes everything. If you mount it too close to a low ceiling, the heat just soaks into the drywall instead of warming you up. We’ve dialed in the wattage so the heat actually punches through the air and reaches the floor. The nitty-gritty of installation A few warnings here. First, make sure your wiring can handle the initial surge of power when the lamp kicks on. Also, don’t skimp on the connectors. We use high-temperature parts because these things get hot. If your housing isn’t rated for the peak heat, the plastic will literally warp. Not a great look. We also shaped the reflectors to push the heat straight down while softening the light. This stops those annoying “hot spots” on your skin. Just make sure your bathroom has decent ventilation. If the air near the ceiling gets too trapped and hot, the safety cut-off will trip, and your heat will shut down right when you need it most.
